Who we are
Lisa Demer
Anchorage
Lisa brings over 35 years of journalistic experience to our board, including 23 years at the Anchorage Daily News, where she covered social issues, crime, politics, and rural Alaska. In 2017, she won the Alaska Press Club’s First Amendment Award. Lisa spent three years in Bethel telling the stories of Western and rural Alaska. Before moving to Alaska in 1994, Lisa worked for The Tampa Tribune in Florida as well as newspapers in Georgia and South Carolina. Two, The Tampa Trib and Gwinnett Daily News, no longer exist. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia.
After leaving ADN, she worked for Rasmuson Foundation as communications manager and in 2023 began working for the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness as external relations director. She serves on the board of Girls on the Run Southcentral Alaska and is a story coach for Arctic Entries, building community a story at a time.
She enjoys gardening, art tours, hiking, running, most dogs and some people.
